We specialize in planting hybrid bermuda grass using spriggs, which are the actual root of the desired grass as well as tops which are cuttings taken from a mature stand of hay. Generally spriggs are used during earlier months of the year i.e. January, February, and March to allow a head start at establishing hybrid bermudas before tops are mature enough to cut, but are also used through out the growing season for certain soil conditions and varieties. An example would be Coastal. Coastal variety can be planted using "tops" but tends to establish a lot better when sprigged due to it's extensive below ground root system. On the other hand Jiggs variety has  equal success when planted using tops or sprigs.
